About This Princess Appliques Amigurumi Pattern

This pattern teaches you how to crochet six princess appliques: Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Ariel, Rapunzel and Jasmine. Each applique includes head, hair pieces, body and dress details so you can create complete little characters. The pattern uses DK weight yarn and a 3.5mm hook for tidy stitches and small scale.

Switch Things Up

I love making these appliques in different colorways; try pastel palettes for a softer, nursery-friendly set or bright primary colors for a playful look.

Want to make them bigger or smaller? Change to a thicker yarn and larger hook for a chunky version, or fingering yarn and a smaller hook for tiny keychain-sized versions.

I often add embroidery details to the dresses or tiny felt accessories like a crown or a tiny bow to personalize each princess.

For more texture, use FLO or BLO stitches on skirts to create ridges and waves that mimic fabric folds.

If you prefer posable hair, add a thin wire inside longer locks before sewing them down to give gentle movement.

Swap safety eyes for embroidered eyes for a fully soft, child-safe applique suitable for baby items.

Combine two princesses into a scene by stitching them side-by-side onto a blanket border or a themed pillow cover.

I sometimes use sequins or metallic thread on the dress trims to add sparkle for festive or holiday versions.

Mix yarn types β€” use a fluffy yarn for hair to make loose, cloud-like styles or use smooth cotton for crisp edges and clean color changes.

Try making matching mini accessories such as tiny purses or crowns to create a full set of collectible appliques.

Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them

βœ— Skipping the stitch count notes at the end of rows leads to uneven shaping; always verify the stitch totals shown at the end of each row and recount if needed. βœ— Forgetting to change color cleanly causes visible joins and fuzzy edges; carry yarn neatly or fasten off and weave in ends for tidy color transitions. βœ— Sewing pieces without pinning first results in misaligned features; pin all parts in place and check the position before stitching permanently. βœ— Not inserting eyes at the recommended rounds creates off-center faces; place safety eyes in the rounds specified (for example rounds 3 and 9 for the head) before adding hair or finishing. βœ— Overstuffing or under-stuffing appliques changes the flat applique look; keep stuffing minimal or follow 'flat applique' guidance and shape by pulling evenly when sewing. βœ— Ignoring front loop/back loop instructions (BLO/FLO) alters texture and fit; follow BLO/FLO directions exactly for the skirt and dress puff shaping.

FEET- with beige color yarn (make 2 pieces) Start with MR and make 6 sc into it.

Joining :

JOINING ALL THE PIECES TOGETHER: Take big circle of hair and the head. Sew head onto the circle so the bottom of the circle is covered and the upper side is popping above the head. Take headband – yellow piece and sew it onto center right above the head onto the hair. Take right and left fringe and sew them on both sides of face. Make sure the headband is popping out behind the fringes. Fringes are bit longer fold bottom part behind the head. Now take the small circle and oval piece and hairband- blue piece. Join the circle with oval using the hairband. Sew the small hair piece to head. Sew belly onto the body right when we switch to beige color. It must be placed as V shaped. Take crop top piece, hands and body and sew the crop top onto hands and body. It will join the hands and body.

β€” Joining pieces general :

Info :

Joining pieces together general instructions: Place pieces on flat surface and pin them. Sew with matching yarn and use pictures as reference for placement. Use longer tails to stitch bows and headbands and wrap tails as described in picture steps.

Assembly Instructions

  • Attach the hair to the head first: pin locks and fringes in place, then sew securely so the lower edge of the hair covers the head base.
  • Sew the headband, bow or bun on top of the hair as indicated in each princess section, folding and securing ends where noted for the bow.
  • Position and sew the top to the beige neck area of the body, then attach the head to the top so the neck shows and sits naturally.
  • Attach the hands on both sides of the body and sew them behind dress puffs or puffs on the skirt to secure placement.
  • Pin all assembled parts on the blanket or base before glueing if using hot glue; otherwise sew each piece together following photo references to ensure correct placement.

Important Notes

  • πŸ’‘Use stitch markers or pins to keep placement accurate when joining head, hair and body pieces to avoid misalignment.
  • πŸ’‘Place safety eyes before adding hair or head decorations and secure them firmly to avoid shifting when sewing other pieces.
  • πŸ’‘Work with consistent tension and small amounts of yarn to maintain the flat applique look; over-tight stitches will curl edges.
  • πŸ’‘Weave in ends as you go when switching colors to keep the back tidy and ensure pieces lay flat once joined.
