Why You'll Love This Princess Appliques Amigurumi Pattern

I absolutely love this pattern because it transforms simple crochet stitches into instantly recognizable princess appliques that charm both young and old. I enjoy how every piece is small and quick to make, yet full of detail like hair buns and dress puffs. The photo references make assembly straightforward, which I always appreciate when creating small appliques. Making a set of six feels so rewarding β€” you end up with a delightful collection that can decorate blankets, gifts or playsets.

Switch Things Up

I love how easy it is to customize these princess appliques by changing yarn colors to create new characters or seasonal looks.

You can make mini versions for keychains by using fingering yarn and a smaller hook for charming tiny appliques.

I often swap safety eyes for embroidered eyes to make the appliques child-safe for gifts and baby blankets.

Try adding tiny sequins or beads to the dress puffs for sparkle and special-occasion versions of these appliques.

Use felt instead of crochet for small accessories like bows or crowns for a mixed-media look and quicker assembly.

I sometimes embroider eyelashes or a small mouth to add personality without changing the pattern stitches.

For a cohesive blanket, make several appliques in the same color palette or alternate two main colors for a coordinated set.

Experiment with surface crochet to add decorative lines on skirts or use contrasting slip stitches for trim details.

If you want a 3D look, add a little stuffing behind small pieces like the headband or puffs before sewing them in place.

Consider adding tiny buttons or crochet flowers as seasonal accessories to refresh the same applique pattern for different holidays.

Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them

βœ— Skipping stitch markers during rounds can lead to losing your start point; use a marker at the beginning of each round to avoid mistakes. βœ— Not switching colors neatly creates messy joins and visible tails; fasten off and weave ends neatly or change colors using an invisible join. βœ— Forgetting to follow stitch counts results in uneven shapes; count stitches at the end of each row especially after increases and decreases. βœ— Pulling yarn too tight when making puffs or ruffles makes them stiff and uneven; maintain relaxed tension and shape with your fingers as you work.

FEET- with beige color yarn (make 2 pieces)

Start with MR and make 6 sc into it.

JOINING ALL THE PIECES TOGETHER:

Take big circle of hair and the head. Sew head onto the circle so the bottom of the circle is covered and the upper side is popping above the head. Take headband – yellow piece and sew it onto center right above the head onto the hair. Take right and left fringe and sew them on both sides of face. Make sure the headband is popping out behind the fringes. Fringes are bit longer fold bottom part behind the head. Now take the small circle and oval piece and hairband- blue piece. Join the circle with oval using the hairband. Sew the small hair piece to head. Sew belly onto the body right when we switch to beige color. It must be placed as V shaped. Take crop top piece, hands and body and sew the crop top onto hands and body. It will join the hands and body.

Assembly Instructions

  • Take the hair and head. Sew the head onto hair in the bottom center and secure with small neat stitches to hide yarn tails.
  • Sew the headband, bow and fringes on Snow White as shown in pictures 11 and 12, placing the headband above the face and bow centered.
  • Attach puffs to the dress and sew hands on back of the puffs so the sleeve area is covered and the arms are secure.
  • For Ariel, pin hair locks in place on the upper part of the head before sewing; sew the top to the body on the beige section and then sew the hands to both sides of the body.

Important Notes

  • πŸ’‘Use stitch markers to keep track of your rounds, especially during color changes and shaping sections.
  • πŸ’‘Stuffing is not required for flat appliques, but pin pieces in place before sewing to ensure correct alignment and symmetry.
  • πŸ’‘Weave in ends as you go to avoid bulk and keep the backs of appliques neat for gluing or sewing onto blankets.
